Through the summer months, the project team has concentrated their efforts on the preparation of our site, installing the critical infrastructure and getting ahead of the winter to come. In late August, crews started the exciting work of erecting the building’s superstructure. The structural system for this project is a combination of precast concrete and structural steel. The precast concrete wall panels are manufactured offsite and trucked to the site for installation. The panels are placed on the concrete footings and create the full wall assembly all at once, including the building insulation and exterior wall finish. Inside of the precast walls, steel is erected to, “fill in” the building footprint. As these elements of the project are installed, visitors can see the overall shape and volume of the future building.
Other activities onsite include the installation of underground plumbing and utilities. Offsite, teams of designers and engineers are busy finalizing detailed 3D models of the building’s systems so that prefabrication can begin. Finally, teams are also prepping for the first of many concrete pours which will make the main floor of the new hospital.
